Hi
I'm back. I have been trying to do an official opening of my studio, but I have been booked, cleaning, fixing, and completely run down with everything. On the bright side,,,,I rise and sew. LOL.
My plan was to have a grand opening party for the opening of my studio. That's not going to happen because I already have clients coming in while I am putting things together and I still have my family obligations that I have to keep up with. That is the life of a Mommy. I have one that is in college and Wow, she is doing so good. (Thank you Lord) and my little one is trail blazing through her 7th grade year. I feel very fortunate to have such beautiful children. I'm so proud of them.
But,,,, on with the plans. I've decided that I can no longer wait to let you in on my studio fixings so,,, I've decided to do a quick Give Away to celebrate in spite of my delays. Yaaaay,, who doesn't love a free item? I have a Kool pattern to give away from McCall's that is from my personal stash. I'll get into that a little later.
Today, I'm about this gorgeous top, McCall's 7411. I was looking for something that I could mingle with my invited guest with and still be able to enjoy my evening without feeling stuffy or restricted. Finding something fun and comfortable was kind of hard. My Mom came over to me with this pattern and said, "What about this top and a pair of pants like the leggings you just made"? I just said ok,, because my Mommy suggested it. I was working on a client's outfit and really wasn't paying any attention to what she was showing me.......Hahhaha.. I admit, Mommy is my best worker....LOL.
Here's a look at what she came up with for me while I wasn't paying attention.
I love bell bottom pants and Mommy wanted the leggings that I made earlier, so she altered the pattern to make these bell bottoms.
I thought Mommy had lost her touch, but I see she is still in the game with this outfit. I can really rock these pants with just about any top. I told her that I wanted the military cut hem so that the hem would sit just to the top of my low heeled foot and look what she gave me. The fit is perfect and I am well pleased with how these turned out. The top that she made wasn't really suppose to be made from cotton, but it worked too.
The Review
Pattern Description: Misses scoop neck top with overlay options.
Pattern Sizing: 16-26
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions and illustrations were awesome.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Nothing not to like.
Fabric Used: Lightweight Cotton
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, Yes/
Conclusion: Since my Mommy made this for me I will try and give her perspective as well as my own. The top was just a front and a back with bias tape as closing trip. (hem and sleeve less trim). It took a couple of hours for her to make and the matching pants took about 30 minutes once she decided on a color and fabric. The top in the cotton is very workable. It has a lot of ease and give, The basic fabric suggestions are Charmeuse, Georgette, Crepe de Chine, and Challis. All of these fabrics are a lot softer than the cotton my mom used, but the ont that she used was a lot like a medium weight Challis. So, I think this pattern could be left to your own fabric choice ideas and any fabric that's suitable for tops or blouses.
Now, Back to the Give Away. I haven't done a Give Away in a while and I know you've been waiting and here it is!!! This is a simple give away and I know I will have someone to participate and win the prize. First, this prize is
I have been watching the kimono become a sensation this Spring and Summer season and I would like to help one of you get into the kimono fever with me. A good cover up is a necessity for any fashion forward Diva. Now's your chance to get the pattern that makes it all Pop!!
Here's what you have to do to win this pattern Plus an extra pattern that is a surprise pattern. Hopefully the winner will not have them in their collection already... :-). The magic task is,,,,,,,, Drum roll........Since this outfit is the one that I would have worn for my Grand Opening, What is one of the main colors in my studio and which fabric do you think I made my curtains from? The top or the pants.
I know that's a lot to answer, but I am sure one of you will get the answers right. Good Luck to you all and by the way,,,,,,,,,, there is only a 48 hour (2 days) limit for the correct answers.
I really enjoyed today's post and I look forward to our visits. Until next time
